The PRECISION Programme
PRECISION is a multi-disciplinary, global programme working to ensure patients with severe asthma routinely receive the right care, at the right time, in the most appropriate setting. The PRECISION programme is organised and funded by AstraZeneca.
Watch members of our global steering committee, Tonya Winders and Professor Andrew Menzies-Gow, introduce the multidisciplinary PRECISION programme. They discuss the unmet needs in severe asthma care and outline the programme’s vision to improve the lives of people living with severe asthma by providing the right care, at the right time, in the most appropriate setting.
PRECISION is a unique, multi-faceted programme, advancing clinical practice to fundamentally improve the quality and speed of care for people with severe asthma. Our goals are to:
-
Accelerate appropriate referrals
Support healthcare networks to ensure timely and accurate referral of patients with severe asthma
-
Build capability
Train providers to accurately diagnose and treat patients with severe asthma or refer to a specialist
-
Expand capacity
Support health system infrastructure to increase timely treatment of patients with severe asthma
-
Improve access to better care
Build advocacy to ensure people with severe asthma have access to appropriate care with the support of policy makers and payers
PRECISION is a collaborative effort across disciplines and areas of expertise with the aim to improve health systems and patient care.
AstraZeneca recognises that we cannot create these changes alone, and we are therefore working closely with leading experts in severe asthma, healthcare professionals, patient advocacy group representatives and those responsible for the design and delivery of healthcare services to create a range of pragmatic and sustainable proposals for change.

Watch Dr Javier Dominuez-Ortega discuss The Carabela Project – optimising patient pathways and care in severe asthma – with Professor Andrew Menzies-Gow. Learn about the efforts made to improve patient care through the creation of specialised multidisciplinary units in Spain, including the adoption of lean methodologies at local and regional levels.
The Carabela Project is part of the PRECISION programme. The PRECISION programme is organised and funded by AstraZeneca.
Watch Professor Claus Vogelmeier and Professor Andrew Menzies-Gow discuss the regional implementation of FastTrack referral networks in Germany, including learnings and next steps. They explore the issue of chronic oral corticosteroid use in severe asthma and investigate ways to improve cooperation between primary and secondary care providers, to optimise patient treatment.
